A shared commitment to First Nations education: Winyama and Curtin University sign MoU

PERTH, AUSTRALIA—November 29, 2023—Digital solutions and education provider, Winyama and Curtin University are delighted to announce their partnership which will focus on First Nations centred education and research opportunities. The agreed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) realises the shared vision of creating education pathways that honour and elevate First Nation knowledges and two-way methods of teaching and learning.

Signed by Andrew Dowding, Managing Director of Winyama and Professor Mark Ogden, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Science and Engineering for Curtin University, both organisations celebrated their mutual commitment to delivering projects which contribute to, and amplify Indigenous aspirations.

An exciting first collaboration, both parties are working on designing pathways in higher education, focussed on the management and utilisation of the Indigenous Land Estate for cultural and economic benefit.

“Education is a cornerstone to economic prosperity for Australians. Yet Australia is still struggling to create equity in this space for First Nation people,” Dowding said.

Reflecting on Winyama’s vision for full and equal participation of Indigenous people in the digital economy, Dowding continued, “Developing accessible pathways that lay the foundation for our people to be inspired, supported and equipped with enough knowledge to take full advantage of opportunities available in the digital economy feels like the logical next step. We couldn’t be more excited to be taking that step with Curtin.”

Curtin University is driven by their strategic vision to make a difference for people and our planet.

Speaking to what this signing means for Curtin University, Pro Vice Chancellor of Science and Engineering Professor Mark Ogden said “Curtin is committed to reconciliation by creating partnerships where we welcome First Nations peoples and organisations into the Curtin communities and campuses in meaningful ways so that together, we can make a difference for Country. This partnership with Winyama is a wonderful example of this, and I thank all of the people from both our organisations who have worked so hard to bring this to fruition.”
