IMW Australia - On Demand streams and their course card symbolism

The IMW Australia - On Demand is a purpose built learning management system (LMS) hosting culturally appropriate and accessible mapping training for Indigenous organisations across Australia.

To meet the various learning requirements of all participants, the IMW Australia - On Demand hosts four course streams that each cater to a different learner and technology.

These courses streams include:

  • Google

  • QGIS

  • ArcGIS Pro

  • IMW Thought Leadership

The course cards and their symbolism

These four different course streams are identifiable on the LMS through their allocated course cards that have been carefully and meaningfully constructed by Waanyi and Kalkadoon woman, and Founder of Leon Design, Keisha Leon. Keisha has also produced the artwork that you see throughout the IMW Australia - On Demand platform.

Google: The symbol in this course card represents the lines of the landscape and country, while subtly reflecting the Google Earth logo. In between the layers of Country, community engagement is represented.

QGIS: The symbol in this course card represents the mapping process, using data to analyse it and then create our own maps with community at the centre. The design also subtly includes the letter Q which is represented in the logo.

ArcGIS: The symbol in this course card represents the mapping process similar to QGIS. However, in this instance, the focus is on larger companies who use mapping technology to help their community.

IMW Thought Leadership: The symbol represents a generic symbol of community mapping, with the community as the central focus. It reflects the IMW logo and the core elements of the artwork.

Keisha also produced the artwork that you see throughout the IMW Australia - On Demand platform. To learn more about the brief and concept behind this artwork, click here.
